South Florida Backwater Fishing Knowledge

The river, bay, and tributary system around Marco Island is a sanctuary for fishing; some say second only to Islamorada for sport fishing. All in all, it’s reported that there are over 100 species of fish. In higher tides, the fish are backed into the root system. As the tide drops, they move to the very edge. For those who haven’t fished in South Florida, you can compare it to bass fishing; nearly all fish are in two places. First is just off mangrove shorelines.

We will drift or anchor just off the shore and cast two to five feet off the mangroves. Marco Island backwater fishing provides a comfortable fishing experience – no waves, calm waters, and even in the wind, we fish the leeward sides of the island. This area is wonderful for family fishing trips. Anyone will be sure to have fun. It’s an educational trip, and sometimes times we get the most unusual species of fish.

How We Catch So Many Fish

There are several methods to catch these prize fish in the backwaters of Marco Island. From all the years of fishing in South Florida, we have strategic methods on how to catch specific fish; we can target almost anything and have success every trip. Below is general information on how we catch so many fish in the Ten Thousand Island and Everglades area. We also offer Marco Island shark fishing services.

What Bait and Lures We Use To Catch Fish

The baits that we use vary, but a common shrimp works every time. Our lures are typically Jig Heads and Poppers – it’s the fisherman’s choice. They all have success. We are just sure to use fluorocarbon leaders. Almost everything is predatory and has teeth that can shred the line. We use open face spinning reels, and anyone can master them within a few casts. Our Preferred Method of Catching Fish

The best casters for proper placement are the most successful. If you are a novice fisherman, we’ll cast for you. Summer months we can throw cast nets for small Pinfish and Sardines. It’s the hottest bait, but you have to find them yourselves, and we do on our fishing trips. We can catch different types of sharks and fish in Marco Island.

When The Best Time To Go Backwater Fishing on Marco Island

We have a full year of incredible success rates. With the change in seasons, the species change a bit. Hot summer months provides amazing shark fishing and allows us to catch a lot of Spanish Mackerel, Pompano, and Permit. Winter is an excellent time for Sheepshead and Snapper, and the catches in the winter time are typically more significant as well near Marco Island. We also provide Macro Island fly fishing with lots of fun and adventure involved in.
